Risk Factors Associated with Dysfunction of Permanent Tunneled Cuffed Hemodialysis Catheters; Single Center Experience Introduction: tunneled cuffed catheters are frequently preferred for hemodialysis in patients chronic renal failure (CRF), but the factors associated dysfunction these not well known. Our goal is to investigate risk factors. Materials and Methods: All cases a diagnosis CRF permanent catheter inserted into central vein first time our radiology clinic between 2014 2019 who developed were included study. Demographic clinical data obtained from file records. The relationship causes presence diabetes hypertension was investigated. Results: Of total 123 cases, 78 (63.4%) male, 45 (36.6%) female, median age 55 (28-78). Twenty-nine (23.6%) had thrombosis, 72 (58.5%) venous stenosis 22 (17.9%) due fibrin sheath. groups compared each other terms age, gender, duration operation catheter, etiology, comorbid diseases, where placed use anticoagulants. most important cause early period thrombosis (p = 0.003). When examined, common hypertension, as concomitant disease without etiology CRF, 0.05). Conclusion: low-dose anticoagulants plays protective role against thrombosis. contraindications, especially diabetic patients, may reduce dysfunction.

Bacteremia associated with tunneled, cuffed hemodialysis catheters.

Bacteremia is a frequent complication associated with tunneled, cuffed, permanent catheters (PCs). The incidence, spectrum of infecting organisms, and optimal treatment for catheter-associated bacteremia (CAB) have not been clearly established. In this study, 101 chronic hemodialysis (HD) patients with PCs for blood access were prospectively monitored for infection during a 24-month period. Dat...

Management of bacteremia associated with tunneled-cuffed hemodialysis catheters.

The dominant problem associated with the use of tunneled-cuffed catheters is infection. When this occurs, two issues must be addressed: treatment of the infection and management of the catheter. The purpose of this 2-yr study was to report the results of a prospective observational series in which catheter management was based on the clinical picture presented by the patient. Data were collecte...

Bacteremia associated with tunneled hemodialysis catheters: outcome after attempted salvage.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Treatment without catheter replacement (catheter salvage) has been described for bacteremia associated with tunneled venous catheters in hemodialysis patients, but few data are available on which to base an estimation of the likelihood of treatment success. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS In a prospective cohort study, all cases of catheter-associated b...

Routine replacement of tunneled, cuffed, hemodialysis catheters eliminates paraspinal/vertebral infections in patients with catheter-associated bacteremia.

BACKGROUND Management of tunneled, cuffed, central venous catheters in hemodialysis (HD) patients with bacteremia remains a challenge. Attempts to salvage the catheter with systemic antibiotics alone have been associated with increased risk of metastatic infectious complications. METHODS Retrospective case series of patients with infectious complications in a chronic dialysis unit, affiliated...

Conversion from temporary to tunneled catheters by nephrologists: report of a single-center experience.

BACKGROUND Nephrologists have increasingly participated in the conversion from temporary catheters (TC) to tunneled-cuffed catheters (TCCs) for hemodialysis. OBJECTIVE To prospectively analyze the outcomes associated with TCC placement by nephrologists with expertise in such procedure, in different time periods at the same center. The impact of vancomycin or cefazolin as prophylactic antibiot...
